Teen Home Learners

Cedar Roots has long offered enrichment programs and community mentorships for Home Learners on Salt Spring Island.

This September of 2026, Cedar Roots is pleased to offer a program tailored for teens, an Integrated Learning approach that specifically supports the developmental needs of the Teen years.

Program Includes:

Inquiry projects, Debate, History, Geography, Science, Culture, Logic, Poetry, Prose, Performance, Critical Thinking, and Creative Writing, to name a few.

These topics are part of ongoing exploration, discussion and project work throughout the year. We also have a number
of fieldtrips each year, both on and off island.

Teens work individually and in groups in a fun and inclusive environment. In the spirit of a differentiated learning environment, kids work at their own pace and level of challenge,
according to personal goals and abilities.

Programs for 2026/2027

Program runs Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9:30-3:00
Grades 7-11 / Ages 13-16
Program is led by a BC Certified Teacher with over twenty years of teaching experience, a background in psychology and Learning Support, and expertise in supporting and tutoring home schoolers.
Community professionals and mentors also share their knowledge and passion by offering interesting and practical learning opportunities in a variety of fields and disciplines.
